December 30th: Farewell to Fats SLC UT(as we know it before it gets gentrified) around 10 PM with a zillion other great artists.
February 14th: Valentine's at The Garage on Beck SLC UT.
Welcome to the website of J. P. Whipple, musician, performance artist, songwriter, artist, writer, and vagabond. I am a veteran songwriter who has released at least a dozen records and sold at least a dozen of each. I have travelled through the US and Europe playing my music and making tens and tens of dollars. My music career has afforded me a life of glamour during which I have spent much of the last decade homeless and barefoot (though it never occurred to me that shoes were important until I was thrown out of a McDonalds where I was trying to connect to the free Wi-Fi with my disconnected iPhone).
I owe my massive success on my insistence on playing styles of music that were most in fashion eighty years ago. When I hear those old records I hear someone making music as if his or her life depended on it. Most of the people that make such music have never been in fashion or charted well. The music that charts tends to be like packaged dinners, loaded with corn syrups, salt, fat and empty calories. As for myself. I do my best to make music as if my life depends on it because it does.
You can usually find me in the organic section of the record stores or on cooperative, community radio stations.... or here.
Please make yourself at home at my website. It has been here since 2001 which is longer than I have been anywhere in the real world. Follow the links at the top and they will take you... somewhere... with any luck. If you are interested in my band, Tycoon Machete, you can find them here.
